Getting active doesn’t just keep your body healthy, it also keeps your mind healthy. Not only is exercise good for you but it can also be really fun! You get a boost of endorphins when you exercise and the long-term effects are even better. Did you know recent studies have found that the effects of frequent exercise during your youth can still benefit you long into old age?

There are so many ways of getting active. Some people prefer group sports where you can also make friends and have fun with other people. Some prefer individual exercise where they can really focus and have time to themselves but there’s nothing to stop you from enjoying both.

Exercise can come in so many forms and different intensities, even a brisk walk counts. Walking is a very underrated form of exercise and can steadily build you up. Not only that, but walking can easily be squeezed into your day. If you combine this with getting out into nature you will feel much calmer and more relaxed too. Give it a try and see how you feel afterwards, you won’t be disappointed.

Taking up a group sport can be really good for your social life. It enables you to meet others with similar interests and maybe even discover other hobbies you may enjoy. Being part of a team gives you valuable life skills that will help you throughout life. Group sports can also help you with strategy and coordination as well as many other skills, depending on which sport you choose. If you join a team, training times can also give you structure in your schedule. Having a certain time each week where you carry out a specific activity can be good for your mental health. It gives you that specific time to just focus on the sport, have fun and get active. During study time and exam periods, this can also be a great way to release tension and let off some steam as well as get out of the house and away from the books for a bit.

These are just a few examples of getting active and there are so many more. Find something you enjoy, join a team, get out into nature or simply go for a walk every now and again. It can be great if you set a certain amount of time each day for this. Even as little as ten minutes will still have a positive effect on your health.

So why not give it a try? Get active and feel great!
