A Guide to Virtual Open Days
As lockdown continues to impact our lives in one form or another, you might be left wondering how university applications will be affected. With universities continuing to work online for the time being, many are trialling virtual open days to attract prospective students unable to travel. But how does a virtual open day differ from a physical one? Can you really find out everything you need to online? I've put together a guide on how to make the most out of virtual open days, in an attempt to answer all these questions and more.
-
Find out what's on offer.
Almost all universities will have some form of virtual offering for prospective students. Make sure you visit their website or contact their admissions office to find out exactly what's going to be available and how relevant that is to you. -
Pre-Register.
Many virtual open days will require you to register beforehand. Have a look on their website to find out if this is necessary, and if you're not sure, get in touch with the admissions office. -
Make a list of what you want to see and find out.
Much like at a physical open day, it's so easy to get caught up in the excitement of the day and forget to find out some crucial information. Make a list before the virtual open day and make sure that you covered everything on the list. -
Get relevant contact details.
Many larger universities are going to struggle to cover all their courses in as much detail online as they would in person. Get a hold of the contact details for either the course leader or one of the tutors so that you can get in touch with them to ask more specific questions relating to your course. Remember that these people will be receiving loads of emails, so try and keep all of your questions to one email so as not to bombard them. -
Keep asking questions!
Regardless of whether you're visiting the university online or in person, you still need to be 100% certain that it's the right university for you. Don't be afraid to keep asking questions to find out everything you need to.
Now you're all set for your virtual open day! Which university will you be visiting?
